As you consider upcoming events at Sovereign Grace Church, please be reminded that the Bible cautions all-believers and unbelievers-to prepare for the ultimate "Coming Event"-the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. (Revelation 3:11 KJV)
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. (Isaaiah 45:23 KJV)
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (Romans 4:11-12 KJV)
There are many theological views and much natural interest in Biblical prophecy concerning future events. Contrary to the current predominant view of premillennial dispensationalism-the relatively modern notion that Christ will return to initiate a literal 1,000 year kingdom on earth centered at Jerusalem-we affirm the Biblical truth that the Lord Jesus Christ reigns on His throne now and that we only await the return in consummation of the eternal state for the righteous in Heaven and the unrighteous in Hell.
While some see some special relevance and significance for the nation of Israel in the supposed future millennial kingdom, the Bible makes it clear that, in Christ, "there is no difference between Jew and Gentile" (1 Cor. 12:13),. Even Abraham looked not for an earthly city, but the Heavenly Jerusalem whose builder is God. The New Testament affirms the fulfillment of prophecies and the spiritual reality of Christians as the oject of Old Testament types and shadows (1 Peter 2:9-10). The Apostle Paul recognized the difference between the natural and spiritual descendants of Abraham, as well as God's continuing faithfulness to the Hebrew patriarchs by calling many Jews to a saving faith in Christ.
Along with its political and material preoccupations, dispensationalism has diverted the attention of many Christians from the work of the Great Commission-spreading the Gospel message. Even as Christians are exhorted to make preparation for the return of Christ, that we not be ashamed at His appearing, there is also the urgency of missionary zeal and evangelism, that sinners might be warned of their imminent danger if they be found yet in their sins at Christ's Second Coming.
