The Bible - Holy & Wholly!

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:   That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV)

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19 KJV)

The Bible is the complete, eternal, infallible, and inerrant Word of God.  The text for preaching and public reading of Scriptures is the Authorized Version (often referred to as the King James Version or KJV), as it is translated from the most reliable and accurate copies of the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. 

It is the responsibility of the minister of the Gospel to preach and teach the whole counsel of God's Word.  The Lord Jesus Christ is present in Scriptures from the first verse of Genesis to the last verse of Revelation.  The Bible is God's progressive revelation revealing Himself, His creation, man's fallen state of sin, the only means of salvation, and the promise of eternal life for the righteous and eternal hell for the wicked.

While it is most assuredly a worthwhile objective of expounding the Scriptures to all peoples, both in translation into native languages and expounding God's Word in a clear and understandable manner, modern "translation" has focused upon distorted manuscripts and produced "bibles" which dilute and pervert historical Christian doctrines because of  a theological agenda and a financial motive.  God's enduring Word need not be compromised in the name of cultural relevance.

As numerous theologians have affirmed through the centuries, "the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, and the New Testament is the Old revealed."  It is a bottomless well of God's truth that can be fully understood and applied only by the power and illumination of the Holy Spirit.  It is far superior to any other product of human literature and will never be supplanted or diluted in the pulpit of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church.

SOVEREIGN GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH -- Preaching the Whole Counsel of God's Inspired, Inerrant, Eternal Word

It is the primary principle of Gospel preaching, as well as individual Bible study, that Scripture is to be interpreted in light of other Scripture. In the historical backdrop of the Reformers' cry "Sola Scriptura!", it is our belief that the Bible contains all that is necessary as revelation by God. Therefore, guided by the enlightenment and illumination of the Holy Spirit, the Bible serves as our sole authority for faith and practice.

Nevertheless, it is the obligation and privilege of each member of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church--and, indeed, every Christian--to diligently study and apply the words of Scripture. The Bible is the lens through which we view and evaluate history, the present culture, and the future. It thus forms the basis for the Christian worldview, wherein we discern between truth and error.
